The outage required several reboots and lasted up to an hour. Some further disruptions may have been experienced due to the high volumes of email that resulted when the server cameback online.

We acknowledge that midday is an awkward time for our users to experrience this sort of problem, and apologise for any inconvenience caused. This server has been up for over 90 days since we last rebooted it.

We suspect the problem may be hardware-related as there is little explanation for it and it has happened before, so we will be making further investigations in order to determine what can be done to prevent it from happening again.
