People buy PCs because they want to tell them what to do - not to be told what they themselves might like to do...
This is basically what's wrong with Vista for me. It's not a Mac, it's a PC; so having to jump two extra hurdles to accomplish every minor administrative task is really starting to annoy me. Which is why i think you should turn off your User Account Control (UAC). The vast majority of Vista installations i've seen in this country so far are laptops, including this one. But laptops only need a single, strong method of "control", not a complicated system of checks and balances. UAC is better suited to the desktop and network environment, and until i start to see more desktop installations of Vista i'll continue to turn it off as part of my standard setup. [instructions] First you'll need to edit your user's profile. Afterwards you need to tell Security Center to stop harassing you. 1. Go to the Control Panel (i'll assume that basic level of knowledge). 2. If you haven't already, switch to Classic View. There you go, isn't that much better? 3. Go to User Accounts. 4. Click on "Turn User Account Control on or off" 5. Turn it off. 6. Go back to the Control Panel. 7. Go to Security Center. 7. Click on "Change the way Security Center alerts me". 8. Then, I recommend that you select "Don't notify me and don't display the icon (not recommended)" - despite the fact that they don't recommend it.. You should be done. Now you can actually get on with exploring the other features of Vista. It's a bit like driving a Hummer through the streets of Sydney, really. |
